presidential debate last week. they saw mitt romney going toe to toe with president obama and so now is another chance they think for the american people to say mitt romney filling out the role as commander in chief and laying out his foreign policy principles and then after the speech is over he will be meeting in a round table with a group of retired generals. again, another one of those images that the campaign would like to put out there of mitt romney as commander in chief. just to talk a little about what you and wolf were talking about a few moments ago, you go into the excerpts and you can take away a few different things. i was listening to a call yesterday and you just mentioned the situation in syria and they were talking about this idea of providing arms to the rebels in syria as an idea that would appeal to the left as to people who look at this from a humanitarian standpoint, and so it was interesting to hear the romney campaign talk about that issue from this standpoint. the other thing they raised on this conference call and that you also see in the excerpts is this i

favor of mitt romney. check this out. this is what has happened since that debate last wednesday. this is gallup's daily tracking poll. a dead heat here when you look at the different numbers, a dead heat for the race for president, down from the five-point advantage for the president not too long ago. that five-point advantage as you can see now totally gone, gone in the tracking poll. i know you're sitting there, looking athe numbers and asking, what about the state polls, they're the ones who count, right? you have virginia and ohio and florida, yes, we are seeing signs of movement toward romney, but do keep in mind before last wednesday, those three big states were firming up nicely for obama. give us one day or two on that. we promise we'll be watching the three states for you as we move forward. on the topic of debates here, keep this in mind as well this is a big week. we have the vice presidential debate coming up this thursday. that's biden versus ryan here. a week from tomorrow, obama versus romney. and then those two again, two weeks from today, that's the final debate

mitt romney. he did it just because for 90 sustained minutes, it was like he was debating a limp piece of spaghetti. >> it was like the chair from clint eastwood. i want to go a little longer with this segment. i want to talk with more of these guys. this is some honest talk. let's talk about job numbers. it could have come from the president. how big of a help to him is this below 8% jobless rate, do you think? i'm going to start with anna to see what the republicans think about that. how big of a help? mitt romney can no longer go, well, the unemployment rate is above 8%. >> absolutely, it was a help. and it was a salvo for president obama on friday, the day just after this disastrous debate. and let me tell you, don. i am a republican. but when it comes to unemployment numbers, i'm an american first. i root for the home team. i'm not on the red team or the blue team. i want our economy to strengthen. i want us to recover as a country. and i think the smartest thing any political person can do, any pundit can do, is celebrate america doing better. >> i think you're absolutely right.
